Quilted art inspired by the beauty

and wisdom of Mother Earth

Hi, I’m Juli Rae, a natural dyer and quilt artist.

I create nature-inspired art quilts with a minimalist style for the adventurous at heart.

I love exploring line, shape, and color in unique ways that go beyond the straight lines and geometric shapes found in many modern and traditional quilts.

All of my work is designed and handmade by me in Portland, OR.

Featured Art

Flourish
$75.00

Beautiful naturally-dyed original art piece. This botanical design was hand painted onto organic cotton fabric, dyed in indigo, and signed. Artwork measures 6.5”x 8.75” and is mounted on an 8”x10” archival art board.

Frame not included.

Resistance Quilt Block Sticker: Love is a Verb
$6.00

This vinyl sticker features a print of the Sun Ray quilt block made from organic cotton fabric that has been naturally dyed with Himalayan rhubarb + iron, cutch, and black walnut. The original piece is finished with hand embroidered letters: love is a verb, ACT.

This collection of quilt blocks was created in response to the brutal events taking place across our nation and the inspirational response by people showing up to take care of each other. People who choose to see the sacredness of our shared humanity rather than the invented divisions of race and nationality. People who see their neighbor as family and the diversity of their communities as beautiful.

Sea Stones 12" x 12" 01
$135.00

The Sea Stone collection is inspired by the smooth beach pebbles that wash ashore. These stones have been caressed by the wind and waves over centuries, traveled hundreds or thousands of miles, resulting in a diverse collection of stones that collect on the shoreline.

This unique piece of wall art is made from leftover naturally dyed scraps of cotton and linen fabric, supporting my commitment to a zero waste art practice. The stones are hand cut, intuitively arranged, and sewn to the background with multiple rounds of stitching for a raw edge appliqué finish.

Finished quilt is stretched on a wooden frame. Sawtooth hanger included for easy display.

Floating frame sold separately.

Nature’s Color Palette

Natural dyeing is the process of coloring fabric using natural elements, such as flowers, leaves, roots, and bark.

It is slow, intimate, and intentional. It is way to push back against consumerism and productivity. It is a practice in acceptance and letting go of control. It is my way of both honor and care for the beautiful gifts offered by Mother Earth.

All of my work is created using naturally dyed fabric. Check out the Natural Dye Studio to learn more about the process of natural dyeing.

Let’s work together to bring your vision to life!

Why hang a quilt on your wall?

Wall quilts are no new trend; textiles and tapestries have been used to decorate interior spaces for centuries. Here are a few reasons you might consider hanging a landscape quilt (or two!) on your walls:

01/ Quilts add a sense of coziness and warmth to a space. The soft texture, earth-tone colors, and organic lines have a calming effect and help soothe the nervous system.

02/ They are easy to display and transport. Each quilt arrives with a hanging sleeve, and hanging only requires a couple of small nails. (And here’s a tip for my fellow renters: I use push pins or command hooks for damage-free walls!)

03/ Quilts help absorb sound, making them perfect for therapist and other office spaces, large rooms, or homes with shared walls.

04/ A quilted wall hanging is a safer alternative to framed art for hanging above beds or in nurseries, especially if you are in an earthquake or severe weather prone area.

05/ A wall quilt is the perfect solution for hiding unsightly objects on your wall such electrical boxes, thermostats, or wall damage.

06/ It’s good for the Earth! All of my quilts are made from 100% cotton fabric that has been naturally dyed by me, meaning that all the color comes from plants and is made without the use of harsh or harmful chemicals. I grow many of the dye plants in my garden, supporting the local pollinator population. Also, each sale helps support an ongoing donation to The Nature Conservancy, an organization committed to land preservation and protection.

Our planet is such a generous mother who provides abundantly. There are so many contemporary worldviews that hold humans as separate from nature, but we are not. We are nature. Harm to the Earth is harm to our selves. Care for the self, for the soul, is care for the Earth and for each other. Every small act leaves an impact, and the Earth remembers.

Throughout my journey, I have developed a deep care for the Earth.

I am committed to learning how to better care for myself, for others, and for the planet (because in the end it is all the same). As part of this commitment, I donate a portion of each sale to The Nature Conservancy.
